February in the 20th Ward: Honoring Black History and Building Community

February is a time to honor Black history, celebrate Black excellence, and reflect on the legacy of strength, resilience, and leadership that continues to shape our communities. In the 20th Ward, Black history is not just something we recognize for one month. It lives in our neighborhoods, our families, and our ongoing work to uplift residents and protect community voice.
This month, the 20th Ward office remains committed to creating spaces for connection, access, and engagement. From sharing critical information and resources to supporting community conversations, our focus is on meeting residents where they are and ensuring their voices are heard.
As we celebrate Black History Month, we also look ahead with intention. We encourage residents to stay engaged with the Ward office, participate in upcoming events, and continue working alongside us as we build a stronger, more equitable future together.

Throughout the month, we’ll share updates on ongoing projects, highlight programs that support families, and uplift community-driven efforts designed to bring comfort and connection. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for event details, volunteer opportunities, and real-time updates as we close out the year with care and compassion.

The City of Chicago offers a variety of health and wellness resources to support seniors in staying active and healthy. These include free or low-cost health screenings, fitness classes, mental health support, nutrition and meal programs, and assistance with managing chronic conditions.
Meal Services
The City of Chicago’s Home Delivered Meal (HDM) Program provides nutritious meals to eligible Chicago residents, 60 years of age and older, who are frail and/ or homebound because of illness, incapacitating disability, or are otherwise isolated. An in-home assessment is conducted by a case manager to determine eligibility for this program.
Transportation Assistance
Transportation is the critical link that assures access to vital services such as health care, social and nutritional services, family and friends, stores and jobs. The availability of transportation allows older adults to live independently in their communities and helps prevent isolation and premature nursing home placement.
Financial Support & Legal Aid
Professional attorneys are available to assist caregivers with various legal issues such as; Power of Attorney, Living Wills, Guardianship and other legal issues that caregivers are often faced with when assisting their older loved ones. Legal services are coordinated and provided by Legal Aid Chicago (LAC).
