Liquor Moratorium & Ward Night
We hosted an open Ward Night for residents to voice concerns, ask questions, and learn about the proposed liquor moratorium. Community voices were front and center in shaping local policy decisions.
Revive 63 Community Meetings
Residents joined us to share ideas and feedback on the future of 63rd Street. These meetings brought together city departments, neighbors, and developers to shape a safer, more vibrant corridor.

Honoring Black Firefighters​

We celebrated the past, present, and future of Black firefighters in Chicago — highlighting their legacy, sharing lived experiences, and uplifting the next generation of heroes.

We proudly honored the legacy of Dr. Margaret T. Burroughs with an honorary street naming ceremony — recognizing her impact as an artist, educator, and South Side legend.
USPS Services Ward Night
In collaboration with Congressman Danny Davis and Jonathan Jackson, we held a special Ward Night focused on USPS service issues in the community. Residents shared their concerns directly, working toward solutions for more reliable local mail service.

​One Summer Chicago App Help​
We opened our doors to help teens and families navigate the One Summer Chicago application process. Staff and volunteers provided on-site tech support, job tips, and encouragement to ensure every young person had a fair shot at summer employment.

20th Ward Clean & Green ​
Residents came together for the annual Clean & Green Day, joining citywide efforts to beautify our neighborhoods. From alleys to sidewalks, volunteers helped clear debris, plant greenery, and kick off the season with pride and purpose.

Community Shredding Event

In partnership with the AKARAMA Foundation, we co-hosted a free Community Shred Day to help residents safely dispose of documents. The event supported privacy protection, spring cleaning, and community connection all in one.

CPS Bidding Info Session​
We’re hosting a series of community listening sessions to discuss the future of shuttered CPS school buildings across the 20th Ward. Residents are invited to learn about the CPS bidding process and share ideas on how these sites can serve our neighborhoods

Senior Bingo
We welcomed local seniors for a lively afternoon of bingo, laughter, and community connection. The event created a safe and fun space for residents to unwind, socialize, and win prizes — all while building stronger ties across generations in the 20th Ward.

CPS Bidding Info Session
​In June, we held our first community session on the CPS school building repurposing process. Neighbors came to learn how shuttered schools could be reused and shared ideas like housing, youth centers, and community hubs. It was a key step toward transparency and local input.

July - September

July
Youth-Led Clean & Green
This July, our young neighbors took the lead in keeping our ward beautiful. Through our youth-led Clean & Green initiative, volunteers rolled up their sleeves to clear alleys, refresh sidewalks, and show the power of community pride in action.

Grand Opening & Back-to-School Celebration
We officially opened our new ward office with a warm welcome to families and neighbors. The celebration doubled as a Back-to-School event, providing supplies, fun activities, and a space to connect as we kicked off a fresh chapter for the 20th Ward.

Community Engagement
This August, Alderwoman Taylor and the Ward 20 staff joined community partners to support and uplift local events. From tabling at KOCO to enjoying Nature Fest, and attending a development meeting hosted by UHSCC, our team stayed connected and engaged with neighbors throughout the ward.

Free Case Management Service Day
In partnership with Anjanette Young, we hosted a free case management service day to provide residents with direct access to resources and support. This event reflected our ongoing commitment to making sure constituents have the tools and assistance they need.

Returning Citizens Summit
We participated in the Returning Citizens Summit, a gathering dedicated to providing resources, opportunities, and support for formerly incarcerated residents. The event highlighted the importance of second chances and our ongoing commitment to equity and inclusion.

Dyett Hunger Strike 10-Year Anniversary
We joined community members and education advocates to honor the 10 year anniversary of the Dyett Hunger Strike. This milestone celebrated a hard fought victory for community control in education and its lasting impact on activism in Chicago.
Q4 Highlights
October - December

Development
In October, we hosted a community film screening at Kennedy–King College and a Development 101 Ward Night. Both events created space for neighbors to learn, engage, and share feedback on how development impacts our communities.

Community
We ended the month on a high note with our 4th Annual Senior Masquerade Ball at the DuSable Museum. The celebration brought together our elders for an evening of dancing, laughter, and appreciation for their continued contributions to the 20th Ward.
