Q1 Highlights
January - March
JANUARY
January was a month of preparation and transparency for the 20th Ward as we focused on setting the foundation for the year ahead. In partnership with Chicago Public Schools, the Ward hosted a public meeting to provide residents with information on redevelopment proposals for the former Fiske and Parkman school sites, along with details on upcoming bid opportunities.
As we begin 2026, the Ward office is actively planning events, initiatives, and engagement opportunities for the year. Our focus remains on keeping residents informed, involved, and prepared as we move forward together.
FEBRUARY
February brought residents together for connection, fun, and community engagement in the 20th Ward. The Ward hosted a Valentine’s Senior Bingo event where seniors enjoyed an afternoon of games, good food, resources, and giveaways. The event created an opportunity for residents to gather, connect with one another, and access helpful information while celebrating the season.
The Ward office continues working to create welcoming spaces where residents can stay informed, build community, and engage with resources that support their everyday needs.
MARCH
March brought residents together for empowerment, connection, and meaningful conversation in the 20th Ward. The Ward proudly hosted its first Girls’ and Women’s Conference, creating a space for women and girls of all ages to come together, learn, and be inspired.
The conference featured engaging discussions, powerful speakers, and valuable resources focused on health, wellness, personal growth, and community support. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with one another, hear from impactful voices, and take away information that supports their everyday lives.
Q2 Highlights
April - June
APRIL
April was a strong month centered on community engagement and neighborhood improvement.
We hosted our first Clean and Green event of 2026, cleaning along 63rd and Calumet with the help of staff and volunteers. We also held two community meetings where a development proposal was presented, followed by voting for residents within the designated boundaries.
In addition, the office hosted two Ward Nights. One focused on a City Services Q&A, and the other, Development 101, gave businesses the opportunity to share project updates with the community.
MAY
May highlighted the importance of investing in our youth and strengthening community connections. The Southside Youth Explosion welcomed young people and families for a day filled with food, entertainment, resources, and opportunities to connect with organizations serving our communities. It was a reminder that when we create safe, positive spaces for young people, we help build a stronger future for the entire South Side. The office also continued its work connecting residents to resources and supporting community engagement throughout the ward.
JUNE
Building partnerships and creating opportunities remained a priority throughout June. Residents gathered for a Community Development Meeting, where developers presented proposed projects and answered questions from the community. We also welcomed more than 10 summer interns as they began gaining hands-on experience serving the ward and supporting our office. Another successful Case Management Day with Ms. Young provided constituents with free assistance and access to valuable resources.
